Press Release Body = Columbia, MD - "Land of Broken Toys" (Trafford Publishing,
2006, ISBN 141209179-9) by Carla St. Rose-Rein tackles one of the most gripping
problems facing families and guardians today - sexual abuse of a child by the person
the parent may be dating. In a vivid and heart-wrenching account, St. Rose-Rein
writes of her childhood and adolescence and the abuse she endured by the men her
mother was dating. "Land of Broken Toys" offers insight on how to be on the look
out for warning signs of one of the gravest problems facing single parents today.

"I want my story, which is told is "Land of Broken Toys", to be a cautionary tale to
parents and everyone in society of the impact that abuse has on children," said St.
Rose-Rein. "More than anything, I want single parents to see this book as a guide
on how to prevent harm to their children.

"When we introduce a person that we are dating to our children, we are taking a leap
of faith, not only for ourselves but for our children," continued St. Rose-Rein.
"The majority of the times these decisions are the right ones but when they are not,
I want parents to know the warning signs and more importantly, I want them to side
with their child and confront the abuse head-on."

Over 47% of American families are headed by a single parent. Often the single
parent will begin dating while their child is extremely young. In many instances of
reported sex abuse among children, it is the boyfriend or girlfriend of the single
parent who committed the abuse. Tragically, the parent will often not believe the
child when they report the abuse and turn a blind eye to behavioral changes.

St. Rose-Rein was one of those children, whose calls for help went unanswered, in
her case, by her mother. She paints a portrait of how a bond between her and her
mother was forever shattered from the trauma and pain of the abuse that she endured.
"Land of Broken Toys" also tells of how St. Rose-Rein did not let it destroy her
life, as so often happens to victims of abuse.

"I want parents and caregivers to realize that when they date and bring that person
into their family's life, they are making a decision that will affect their children
for years to come," said St. Rose-Rein. "'Land of Broken Toys' is meant to help
parents and caregivers make the right choices and show them how they can investigate
and observe the interaction of their children and the person they are dating in a
healthy manner."

"Land of Broken Toys" is a straightforward memoir that not only draws upon St.
Rose-Rein's own experience but upon several years of research on the issue of single
parents and abuse. The book also covers another related growing issue in today's
world - what exactly are the rights of children and when do they supersede those of
the parents.
